Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 for Macintosh version 1.02c
The enclosed file is an update to the Macintosh version of Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2. To install it, simply copy the "Heavy Metal" file enclosed here into the "Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.2" folder where the game is installed, replacing the old program file with this one. The next time you run the game, the top right corner of the main menu screen will read "1.02c", confirming that the latest version is installed.
This patch will work for all U.S. and international MacOS versions. It will not, however, work with the demo version of the game.
Changes since 1.02b (International CD versions & unofficial patch)
• Redesigned MP3 decompression buffers for much better speed and stability.
• Sound mixing performance has been improved.
• Increased sound mixahead to reduce sound skipping, especially on low-end machines.
• Increased free memory requirements to improve stability during level loading and eliminate texture white-out. You may need to increase your computer's virtual memory.
Changes since 1.02 (American CD version)
• Fixed looping sounds so using the chainsword no longer causes a crash.
• Game will still run if the folder is moved from where it was installed.
Additional known problems and workarounds
• On Voodoo graphics cards, lights in the game may emit strangely-colored beams, and the load-game menu will display corrupted preview pictures. This is a problem with 3Dfx's drivers, and with the layoff of 3Dfx's engineering staff it is unlikely to be fixed.
• If you have 3Dfx drivers installed but no 3Dfx card, the game may crash. Be sure to remove the drivers if you remove the card.
• Having unnecessary input devices (graphics tablets, etc.) may cause the game to stop responding to mouse motions. If you have a problem with this, try unplugging them.
